Have you heard of Stitch Maynia? I became aware of the event in 2020 when I delved into the world of cross-stitch in a serious way!
Developed in 2015, it began as a Facebook challenge amongst friends to start 15 new projects and has since spiralled into a whole host of challenges, SALs and other stitch goals that stitchers set for themselves. It has since been archived by the original organizers but the idea lives on in many different guises.
I delved into the craze in a serious way - starting a new start on every day of May in both 2020 and 2021. This certainly meant my WIP (works in progress) pile became huge. In 2022 I decided to just tackle my existing WIP pile and just start each one for each day of the month. I'm pleased to say I have managed to whittle down this pile since then - and I even finished one today - Tiny Modernists Advent Calendar. This ended up being a huge project - lots of different colours which I love!
My 2023 Stitch Maynia plans still involve touching a different project each day - and I plan to have a number of new starts. To keep it more manageable I think I'll focus on smaller projects, like ornaments for the Christmas tree. Keep an eye on social media to follow my progress - this should be fun and will push me out of my comfort zone. If you are keen you could even participate! There are no rules - you could even use the idea for quilting WIPS.
