Beginner friendly quilting workshop- Checkerboard Cushion

Where: The Rural Stitch Co, 40 Bool Lagoon West Road, Bool Lagoon, South Australia

Date and Time: Thursday January 11, 1-4pm 2024. (Further dates will be released in 2024 as interest dictates).

Cost: $60 per person (includes afternoon tea), with a limit of 4 people per class.

About: This workshop is designed for beginners just starting out on their quilting journey. We will explain some of the basic quilting techniques including ¼ inch seams as well as the use of rotary cutters, rulers and walking feet (check to see if your sewing machine has one of these*). You will be shown the skills to create your own 30 x 30cm cushion with a checker patterned top using the latest range of Emma fabric, how to machine quilt and then complete with an envelope back.

We will accept non-sewers in this class, as we will spend the time to teach you how to set up and operate your machine if required and hopefully by the end of the day you will be able to use it un-assisted. (We welcome ‘helpers’ to attend as well if the sewer would prefer some moral support!)

Materials included:

• 1 Mini Charm pack (2.5”x 2.5” or 6.4 x 6.4cm) of pre-cut fabric
• Batting & Basic fabric to make quilted pillow top
• Backing fabric from Emma fabric range (you will choose on arrival)
• Cushion insert

Participants will need to bring:

• Sewing machine
• Scissors
• Pins
• Quick unpick
• Thread (500m spool)

*NB not essential
